Veiled Country: Yes, I Believe

Room 263 wants you. Only you.” Anna* rushed into the hospital room. Her patient, Jamal, was lying in bed, his eyes trained on her. She worried that something had happened.

“The story?” he asked, his voice barely audible. Anna was relieved. She’d promised to tell him a story earlier that day to distract him from his pain.

“You really want to hear it?” she asked. Jamal nodded.

Anna quickly prayed for guidance. God inspired her to share the story of the woman with an issue of blood who touched Jesus’ robe. Jamal listened intently as she spoke.

“Jamal,” she said, “hope welled up inside her. She wanted healing so much that she was determined to find Him.” She explained that Jesus knew the woman’s desire for healing, just like Jesus knew Jamal’s. “He knows you’re worried because you don’t know what will happen.”

After Anna finished the story, she gently asked Jamal if he believed that Jesus could heal him. He was silent for a few moments and then said, “Yes. Yes, I believe.”

It wasn’t long before Jamal received the lung transplant he desperately needed. He and Anna have kept in touch and he enjoys the devotionals she sends him. He calls her his sister because she prayed for him and helped him.
